A Brief History

Owned and operated by Dennis Frick and Lori Van Houten Frick, Europa Macchina, Inc.  is a team of dedicated master craftsmen, each possessing a strong interest in the restoration and preservation of special interest cars and motorcycles.  Our experience in repairing, racing and restoring European machines began in the late 1950s. 

We have won several national and international awards with our work, including Best 356 "A" Model Porsche in Europe, and Best 356 "A" Coupé and "C" Open Model Porsches in Toronto. 

Among our more recent accomplishments are: “Weissach Award” (Porsche 356SC Cabriolet) at the 2003 National Porsche Parade, repeated in 2005 (Porsche 356A Cabriolet); “Rene Dreyfus Award” at the Concours d’Elegance of the Eastern United States and “Best Thoroughbred Racer” (1985 Royale-Porsche RP40) at the National Porsche Parade.  Further awards include “First in Class” (1952 Mercedes-Benz 220 Autenrieth Coach) at Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance; “First in Class” (1958 Porsche 356A Sunroof) and “Best in Ring” (1963 Porsche 901 Prototype) at Meadow Brook Hall Invitational Concours d’Elegance; “Best Special Interest” (902 Prototype), Best “A” Coupé and “Best Special Interest” (1958 356 Vintage Racer) at the Porsche 356 East Coast Holiday; a division win and People’s Choice at the National Porsche Parade with our Porsche 904GTS Monte Carlo rally tribute car; Honorary Judges' Choice ("C" Coupé) and Best "A" Coupé at the 356 Porsche East Coast Holiday.  At AACA Hershey National Fall Meets, we were awarded First Junior (1955 Porsche 356 Continental ) and First Senior (1959 Mercedes-Benz 220 SE, 1952 M-B 220 Autenrieth Coach, Ducati 450 Mk III Desmo, 1958 Porsche 356A Sunroof and 1964 Porsche 356SC Sunroof). 

In addition, our Porsche 356A Sunroof was awarded the prestigious S.F. Edge Trophy, the AACA annual award for the best restoration nationwide of a foreign-made car. 

This significant accomplishment was repeated in 2005 with a 1960 Porsche Roadster, and the award was won a third time in 2008 with our 1952 Mercedes-Benz 220 Autenrieth Sedan Delivery.

At the National Porsche Parade Concours, we received Honorary Judges' Choice for the 1963 Porsche 901 Prototype that we restored and prepared.  The 901 can be seen in Porsche Panorama September 1995 and 1993, the October 1994 issues of both European Car and Excellence magazines, the March 21, 2008 issue of Autoweek, and the Spring, 2012 issue of Motor Trend Classic.

Our company was featured in an AP press release during summer 2005.  Our work has been featured on the Sep. 2007 cover of German magazine Oldtimer Markt, in the Apr. 2007 Mercedes-Benz factory magazine Classic, and in the Jan. – Feb. 2002 and Jan. – Feb. 2007 issues of (Mercedes-Benz) The Star.  To date, our cars have also been featured in The New York Times, Autoweek, Mercedes-Benz Classic (factory publication), and Motor Trend Classic, and pictured in USA Today, The Robb Report, German Life and Classic Car Collector.  The German firm Hoechst AG chose our restored 901 as its calendar Porsche in 1995.  In 1994, Porsche Cars North America selected our 901 as its 30th Anniversary poster car.  Finally, our cars have been featured on the NBC Today Show!
